(22 April 2021, Hong Kong) As climate change has become the biggest threat to humanity and our planet, corporate sustainability is more critical than ever. Many countries and multinational corporations have already announced solid plan to pledge carbon neutrality or to achieve net zero emissions targets within the next few years or decades.

Since 2012, Green Monday Group has set out to promote climate-friendly food choices and construct a sustainable food ecosystem as part of the core mission. On Earth Day, 22nd April of 2021, Green Monday Group’s 9th Anniversary, we are proud to launch the ‘Green Monday ESG Coalition’, an alliance to unify businesses with concrete plant-based solutions to rebuild a more sustainable and resilient future.

Through this coalition, Green Monday teams up with corporate signatories to devise actionable roadmaps with quantifiable green strategies that fully integrate into corporate governance and strategy to create step changes. Signatories will:

  • mandate the ratio of plant-based options through various initiatives, such as in staff cafeterias, pantries, company events, and even community projects that create ripple effects far and wide;
  • demonstrate climate leadership and industry best practices by influencing external and internal stakeholders with plant-based actions;
  • gain specific and measurable impact projections certified by global subject experts including the Department of Earth Sciences at The University of Hong Kong.

David Yeung, founder and CEO of Green Monday Group, said “The world urgently needs climate action that will accelerate our progress towards net-zero.  We believe it is both a responsibility and opportunity for corporations globally to establish ESG best practice.  Food is not just the fuel for our body, but it plays an enormous role in impacting global sustainability crises such as climate change, biodiversity damage, food insecurity and public health. The establishment of the Green Monday ESG Coalition is to collaborate with industry leaders and stakeholders to curate sustainable food solutions, co-create partnership models, develop implementation roadmap and provide accreditation reporting.”

Green Monday ESG Coalition welcomes local and global corporate leaders to enroll under different tiers of engagement to achieve scale and impact. Mission Partners, those pledged to accelerate the plant-based movement as one of their corporate pillars, include AXA Hong Kong and Macau (AXA), Great Eagle Group and Swire Properties. AXA will launch a series of innovative actions to create a greener future and co-create social education and innovative CSR programmes with Green Monday. The Great Eagle Group has been driving the Michelin-starred restaurants under its hotel portfolio in promoting fine dining dishes with plant-based options, and will partner with Green Monday to organize thematic training programme for the hotels and the catering industry not only to advocate vegetarianism, but also to promote the creativity in designing vegetarian dishes in all aspects. Swire Properties is committed to sustainable development of its communities, such as the current “Go Green For The Stars” campaign happening in Starstreet Precinct.

Ecosystem Partners, including KPMG and Shui On Land, will promote a more sustainable lifestyle and eating habits empowered by plant-based food, and will continue to raise awareness with their stakeholders at a company-wide and community level.

Action Partners are mission aligned corporations who will increase plant-based options at corporate events. Growing members include Compass Group Hong Kong, EY, foodpanda Hong Kong, Hang Lung Properties, HKBN Group, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited and Lenovo Group Limited.

With the Green Monday ESG Coalition, corporations go further to future-proof businesses from climate risks, and preserve humanity and the planet.
