Find out where vegan pork, dim sum, and other plant-based ready meals are launching in 7-Eleven.
Shopping vegan at 7-Eleven just got easier—at least for those residing in Hong Kong.
The international convenience chain teamed up with Green Monday to launch plant-based meals in more than 700 stores throughout the city. The release includes more than 30 plant-based items—such as soups, snacks, and more—in 150 Hong Kong locations.
Similar to Meatless Monday in the U.S., Green Monday is a campaign and social venture group aimed at helping the Asian community embrace a plant-based lifestyle.
In a press release, Alex Liu said the partnership makes it convenient for locals to find plant-based food. Liu is 7-Eleven Hong Kong’s and Macau’s managing director. “Our extensive store network and the fact we’re open 24 hours enables us to meet our customers’ needs and offer them plant-based options anytime, anywhere,” Liu explained.
Vegan 7-Eleven Finds
The plant-based range features two OmniEat’s ready meals exclusive to 7-Eleven. These include OmniPork Strip Spaghetti in Black Pepper Sauce and OmniPork Strip Rice Vermicelli with Sesame in Teriyaki Sauce.
7-Eleven also launched two new OmniEat’s dim sum products: OmniEat Siu Mai and OmniEat Crystal Dumplings. The products also launched in Green Common, a plant-based grocery chain and café developed by Green Monday.
Food tech startup OmniFoods—a company that Green Monday launched in 2018, is the mastermind behind the vegan pork. In early 2021, the brand launched the vegan pork in nine restaurants across the U.K. The meatless pork features a blend of pea protein, soy, shiitake mushrooms, and rice.
In the release, David Yeung, the founder of Green Monday, said he hopes the launch in 7-Eleven Hong Kong stores will make plant-based foods more accessible.
“The selection from Green Common, including ready meals, dim sum and snacks, gives 7-Eleven’s customers greater choice when it comes to quick and convenient plant-based options,” he explained. “We hope that the range, available at 7-Elevens citywide, enables busy Hongkongers to lead a green lifestyle conveniently, anytime and anywhere.”
This isn’t the first time 7-Eleven has launched vegan meat offerings. In 2019, the convenience store chain tested meatless sausage in several Oslo, Norway locations. And in the summer of 2020, it launched vegan sausage rolls and meatless beef pies in all stores across Australia.
